Anxiety is an important tool that our body and brain use to keep us safe and prepared for the unexpected. However, for some, anxiety can feel out of control and negatively impact their health, relationships, and quality of life. Unmanaged anxiety is one of the most common mental health challenges faced by people from all walks of life. Thankfully, mental health research has gifted us with a full toolbox of techniques and strategies to understand and manage anxiety, which can reduce its negative impact on our lives. Sunflower Clinical Group specializes in modern, evidence-based treatments for anxiety that can lead to real, noticeable reductions in symptoms and improved quality of life.
Life is full of ups and downs, with times of happiness and sadness. For some, experiences of sadness can turn into symptoms of depression, including not only a sad mood but also low motivation, lower energy levels, negative thinking, hopelessness, and even thoughts of harming oneself. Sunflower Clinical Group offers evidence-informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients understand and overcome their depression, and will gladly partner with our client’s PCP or Psychiatrist to provide coordinated support to reduce the impact of depression symptoms.
Despite their best efforts, many folks struggle with focus, organization, and prioritizing the many tasks we are responsible for each day. For some individuals, these struggles take the form of ADHD. While medication is often very helpful to deal with these symptoms, some people seek additional tools to help them better manage their ADHD symptoms and create better, more effective habits in their life. Sunflower therapists are trained and experienced in helping clients to use cognitive-behavioral tools to improve focus and organization and to build better habits to accomplish their goals.
In many ways, the LGBTQ+ community has made great gains in the past 30 years in visibility, social acceptance, and civil rights. However, even in light of these wonderful developments, many in the community still carry with them the impact of time in the closet, the burden of unaccepting family members or communities of origin, experiences of discrimination and prejudice, and the sometimes difficult journey of self-understanding and self-acceptance. The clinical team at Sunflower Clinical Group have specialized in LGBTQ+ issues and have experience working with clients from across the LGBTQ+ spectrum, including specific experience with Trans+/GNC individuals. Sunflower Clinical Group is proud to provide supportive, affirming, evidence-based care to the LGBTQ+ community.
Sex and sexuality can be some of the most enjoyable and challenging parts of human existence. We live in a society with complex and contradictory expectations and assumptions about sex and relationships, and it can be difficult to find a place to honestly discuss and explore our thoughts and feelings about sex in an environment without expectations or judgement. Whether a member of the LGBTQ+ community or not, everyone deserves to define for themselves what they desire from their sexual and romantic relationships. Sunflower Clinical Group strives to create safe space in the clinical hour for our clients to have safe, open, honest, and scientifically-accurate discussions about sex and sexuality with their therapist to help our clients get the most from their sexual and romantic relationships.
Sometimes in life, we experience events that challenge the ability of our mind and body to understand and process what has happened to us and how to move forward. Sometimes, events from experiences of war, childhood abuse, relationship violence, or even physical injury can create psychological symptoms that are disruptive and difficult to manage. Sometimes, individuals find themselves suddenly troubled by vivid memories, worries, and intrusive thoughts about events that happened decades before. These types of experiences are collectively known as Trauma, and can be very difficult for someone to manage on their own. Thankfully, mental health research points the way to techniques such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Prolonged Exposure that, with the assistance of a trained therapist, can provide meaningful and long-lasting relief those who are carrying the burdens of trauma. The team at Sunflower Clinical Group are highly trained in the use of contemporary, evidence-based therapies to reduce the impact of trauma on our client’s lives.
Even the most successful relationships can be challenging — the intimate connection that makes relationships so meaningful can also bring out complex emotions and dynamics. LGBTQ+ couples can face these challenges in addition to the layers of complexity added by diverse gender expression, sexuality, societal pressures, non-monogamy, and chronic health conditions. Sunflower providers have experience working with all types of relationships. Individuals in LGBTQ+ relationships deserve relationship therapists who are trained not only to help clients with relationship challenges, but who are also familiar with the unique challenges of LGBTQ+ relationships. Sunflower Clinical Group is equipped to provide meaningful, informed, and affirming support to individuals who are seeking assistance in overcoming their relationship challenges together with a therapist.
